Not satisfied with being the oldest British musician to have a hit single and Britain's oldest employee (as a van cleaner for Pimlico Plumbers), 101 year-old Buster Martin is attempting to add another title to his collection - that of 'oldest ever person to complete a marathon'. If Buster completes the 26-mile course on April 13, he will beat the existing record (held by Fauja Singh) by a very substantial 8 years. Buster has already completed the Roding Valley half marathon in Essex in 5 hours and 13 minutes, after which he celebrated by signing autographs for his fans and drinking a pint of beer!

I used to do a lot of cycling with the Youth Hostel. Many of the rides were 100 mile runs or century rides as they called them. There were a couple 85 year olds that made it to ever one of these rides. I don't know if it was a tortoise and hare thing or what but they always made great time unlike some of us younger riders at the time.
