Welcome to the Retirement Detox blog

3decover2edited Welcome to the blog which supports the Retirement Detox Programme.

There are several reasons why a retiree feels like they need a Retirement Detox:

•    They may have ambitious plans for their retirement that haven't come to fruition and their lack of progress is getting them down.
•    They have already achieved all the goals they set for their retirement and are left feeling 'what next?'.
•    They have just been over-run by everyday, mundane activities that leave precious little time for what they really want to do.
•    They are struggling to blend their retirement plans and expectations with the plans and expectations of a partner or other significant person (for example, a grown-up child who expects them to be a full-time babysitter).
•    Something came along that just blew their plans right out of the water - a divorce or serious health problem, for example.

10 reasons to hire a baby boomer

Old but good This post, from azcentral.com, has received some flak for not being p.c. (via the comments section at the end of the article) but, if you're a boomer looking for a new job and feeling a bit battered by the process, read it.  It might help you feel a little better about yourself, your skills, your attitude and, yes, even your advancing years! :)

The 6 stages of retirement

RDPcoursenowavailable 'It's just a stage you're going through...' - how many times have well-meaning friends and family members said that to you over the course of your lifetime? And, as far as retirement is concerned, 'disillusionment and disenchantment' is just one of the stages that most retirees go through. (Check out Mark Cussen's ' 6 stages of retirement' to find out which stage you've reached in the retirement process.)

Of course, problems can occur when you spend too long in the 'disenchantment' stage and feelings of disenchantment start to turn into boredom and dissatisfaction with your life, which can, in turn, lead to full-blown anxiety and depression.

If you feel that you may be suffering from depression, I would urge you to contact your Doctor immediately and get the help you need.  However, if you feel that it's time to give yourself a bit of a shake-up in the 'retirement lifestyle' department, here are some of the ways that I can help:

Great Quotes - On having dreams

Marcia Weider Last year I spoke on board a cruise ship.  The average age of the passengers was well over 65.  I would split the people I met into two categories, those with and without dreams.  The ones who had dreams and hopes for their golden years or for their children and grandchildren were filled with life and energy.  Those who thought they were too old to have dreams were a little like the walking dead.  The difference was astounding.

Great Quotes - What's your life purpose?

Question mark on keyboard So many people are looking for it: their big life purpose.

Becoming YOU is your purpose. You’re the very purpose of your existence. Realizing what lights your fire and floats your boat -- THAT’s your life purpose. What else could it be?

If it gives you true joy {not the seemingly happy-high that is fleeting, but the reliable, always-there kind of satisfaction} to… grow a family or a garden; to help people feel powerful – whether by fueling their bank accounts or working their bodies or writing their stories; to make people laugh, to commune with nature, to make things a little more beautiful wherever you go; to feed; to stir it up, to clean it up, to look on the bright side; compassionate citizenry, non-stop exploration, or pure pleasure-seeking… then, by God, that’s your life purpose!

Your life purpose is what you say it is.

Who could tell you otherwise?
